Adult Students

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Across these ten years, we have had several Easter Weekend Workshops for adults. Lots of Stagecoach parents have been a part of one of these or have joined us as participants in their children`s classes, either in Early Stages Demonstration terms or in main school “Bring a Parent to Stagecoach” days. In Summer 2006 I started some regular Adult classes at The Forum Music Centre in Darlington on Wednesday evenings. They have run for a year but the very last 6 week course will conclude this term with a Singing course. We may revive the Easter Weekend Workshops at a future date but for now the adult link is over.

If as an adult you have taken part in Stagecoach activities, perhaps you would like to share your impressions with us.

I just wanted to add to the adult students thread on the site having just watched my DVD of Oakwood which brought the memories back! I thoroughly enjoyed attending adult stagecoach which seemed to work wonders for my confidence-Andrea is right, the sessions with Emma made me find my voice too! I recently auditioned for a part in something which I never thought i could do-I feel Stagecoach helped me find the inner confidence and I of course met some lovely like-minded people along the way too! I’m currently busy with DOS production of ‘Carousel’ which is to be perfomed the end of October (24th-4th Nov)@the civic so would be delighted if any of the adult students want to pop along and catch up :) thanks Stagecoach for everything. Before Emma did her magic, I only sang when I thought no-one was listening. I was the typical shower-singer. But after the 2006 Easter weekend workshop I could sing, dance and act for a room full of people. I had found my mojo and didn’t want to leave it at that, so thank you Trudy for setting up the Wednesday night classes. I loved every minute of every session.

Like most people of a certain age, I spent all my time being someone’s mum, wife, colleague, carer. Getting out on a Wednesday night and letting loose gave me some balance and freedom as well as a social life. Maybe grownups need the Stagecoach boost even more than the kids.

Thank you to everyone I met throught the adult courses. What really made it for me was the fact that we were all on the same journey, never judging each other, always supportive and encouraging, feeling safe to make mistakes, ready to laugh with - not at - each other.

Emma’s kind, funny, inventive and inspirational teaching helped me find my voice. I’m surprised and delighted to admit to myself that I can actually sing! It’s a huge boost to my confidence and it’s made me a more relaxed person. I care a lot less now about what other people think of me.

I could never thank you enough, Trudy and Emma.

Melting Pot Arts

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Hi Everyone,
Below is a press release from the organiser of Melting Pot Arts, who is re-starting a singing group of hers IN DARLINGTON!

I met her during a rehearsal at Gospel Shock and explained how we wanted to find a way to continue as a group.

I’ve not heard back from the Forum re dates, times or content of their course, though I suspect it might be very rock and pop oriented.

If this other course gets off the ground, it sounds just up our street - on a Wednesday, too! I explained the need to be able to go for a drink after, so she’s aiming to find a venue near a pub.

But it’ll only happen if people show an interest, so ring the number or email her and we’ll see each other in Darlington in September!

Lots of love, Andrea

So here’s the press release:

“Cacophony Calls - NEW group for adult singers in Darlington

“Following interest from local people Rebecca McGarvie from Melting Pot Arts is looking to set up a new singing group for adults in the Darlington area. Cacophony will be a group for vibrant, enthusiastic singers who wish to share their love of singing with others in a friendly, informal environment.

“No previous experience is necessary- but a passion to try out different musical styles, explore vocal technique and have fun singing is essential.

“There will be a fee (Approx £10-15) for each session which will be determined once venue and other details are finalised. The group hopes to meet on a Wednesday night in a town centre location in Darlington with sessions starting in September.

“If you would be interested in joining this group please contact Rebecca on 01325 262719 or info@meltingpotarts.com so that details can be finalised. For further information about Rebecca and Melting Pot Arts visit www.meltingpotarts.com

“Melting Pot Arts provides high quality arts experiences for people of any age, ability or background. Our tailor made projects enable group members to develop individually and collectively through exciting workshops in many different art forms.’
