Saturday, January 29th, 2011Performances at the Vibe Awards Well Received
Saturday, January 29th, 2011Received today from the organisers of the Vibe Awards for children in Darlington.
Hello Trudy,
Just wanted to say a big thank you to you, the other teachers and young people for performing again at the Vibes again.
They were all amazing as usual and feedback has been fantastic!!
Jo
There were two awards nights last week and our All Boy Dance Class and Dance STARE performed at the Tuesday awards night. The Boys danced to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen and were complimented enthusiastically by the editor of the Northern Echo when I met him on the stairs at the interval.
STARE performed to “Bridging the Gap”, as the night`s finale and the dance ended with a spectacular `explosion` of dancers. Hayley Moohan said that she had visited Hurworth School the night after and the Hurworth teachers who had been at the Vibes were full of praise for our groups - saying that they get better every year. Here is an article about the awards from the Northern Echo. The Boys group is pictured taking a bow.

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010Stuart to Appear in a National Theatre Production in Newcastle
Thursday, September 9th, 2010Stuart Thompson (Darlington Friday school and All Boys Dance) has been successful in winning a part in `The Habit of Art` which is a National Theatre production on tour, stopping at Newcastle`s Theatre Royal. Stuart plays a young boy called Charlie in this play written by Alan Bennett.
Stuart will share the role with another boy in performances across a week. He will have to rehearse for a few afternoons prior to the show opening and has lines in the play and also has to sing. The play is about an imagined meeting between Benjamin Britten and WH Auden. There is adult material in the play which would make it not suitable for young children, just in case anyone was thinking of taking their child to support Stuart.
Stuart is having a good run of things at the moment with this play following on the heels of a Summer School in the West End and his iconic role for us as Billy in `Billy Elliot`, at the QE College, for his own school show, Darlington Arts Centre Theatre for our public shows and The Victoria Palace Theatre in the West End for the Billy Youth Theatre West End Showcase (where the photograph below was taken.
Andrew Ashton and Ethan Hurworth also attended for audition, and there may have been others that I am not sure about who should all also feel proud because Andrew`s mum forwarded to me the e mail that she received from the casting agent
Many thanks for bringing your son to audition for us for ‘The Habit of Art’ in Newcastle on Monday. We were extremely impressed by the talent we saw, it was the highest level in all the auditions we have conducted nationwide, but unfortunately your child was not successful on this occasion. We very much hope to see them all on stage in the future, and if we bring any other shows to the area that need boys of this age we will certainly be in touch.
Best wishes
Charlotte
