3 Days and counting! Please be early

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Just a request to students and their families planning to join us for the Locomotion, to come early to register,  I am fearing that there will be a mad push to register at the last minute, which will overwhelm our resources.  The more people who register as soon as the tables open at 10.00am the better.

Keep telling your friends! Alpha Radio have backed us by repeating the appeals regularly and BBC radio have also backed us and want an interview on the morning of the record attempt from the square. The TV also seemed interested when I rang them but we`ll have to wait and see!

8 Days and Counting!! Help the E Mail chain!

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The e mail method of raising awareness seems to be working. Mrs Brown reported this morning that one had come to her from a non-Stagecoach source so that is great news. I also had an e mail from a non-Stagecoach source checking that the information was not a hoax before he passed it on.  SO if you have not done so already, can you copy and paste the black typed information below and forward it in an e mail to anyone local in your address book, who might come and join us or who might know other people who would.

I NEED YOUR HELP!!

On SATURDAY 26th JULY we are trying to break a Guinness world record in the market square in Darlington for the largest number of people doing the Locomotion Dance. The attempt will take place at noon but the choreography will be taught at 11.45am and participants need to pre-register (Guinness rules) at any time from 10.00am at special registration tables set up in the market square.

THE EVENT IS FREE TO JOIN AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME

The event is to return public pride - see later and also to raise money and awareness for a very needy charity “Hands of Love”  where 100% of the public`s donations go straight to a Ugandan orphanage which is trying to keep 350 orphans from dying.

The choreography is simplified for any age group or fitness level and it will not be travelling in a line, like a train, so there is no danger of young children or older people stumbling and getting hurt by others behind them. Everyone dances in their own space.

It is a matter of regional pride too that we bring this record home because it was originally set as part of the celebrations for the Locomotion`s historic journey between Darlington and Stockton. Now another group in the south of England holds the record. COME ON TEES VALLEY - STAND UP AND FIGHT and bring the record back where it belongs!!

Can you forward this e mail to friends and colleagues who you think either might turn up (we need more than 1400 to beat the record - eek!!) or who would forward this e mail to people in their address book who might also forward it on to their address book etc.   Thank you if you decide to help.

10 Days and counting - How students can spread the “Locomotion” word

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008
  • Some enterprising students tonight have been telling me that they are taking the locomotion details into school and getting their teacher to talk to the class about it.

  • If you older ones are online with MSN, Facebook or My Space then spread the word too in that way.

  • I also know that it is a favourite activity for young ladies to go shopping with their friends on Saturdays - so bring them along with you to the “Locomotion”!!

  • If you belong to cubs, scouts, brownies or guides, a swimming club or a Dance class, print off the poster on the front page of the web site and ask your teacher/ organiser whether they will talk about the event to your group or put the poster up somewhere - or BOTH!

  • Print off a poster, take it to your local shop and ask them will they put it in their window

11 Days and Counting!!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I am going to do a count down to the event. So here goes!

Only 11 days to go and I am more and more nervous about our succeeding with the Guinness attempt.  Despite mentioning it to lots of parents across the weekend I still only have about 6 volunteers to man a desk for the registrations from 10.00am until about 12.30pm on the day. I need about another 20 people. Idon`t know whether to be more worried about not enough people turning up or too many.

If you can offer any of your time on the day (even if only half an hour)  can you please ring me on 01325 337667.

Hands of Love Container Appeal

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

I received an e mail today from the Hands of Love charity. I print it beneath. Can YOU help?

HI Trudy,
Attached is the list as requested.
John

Hello,

EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!

There is a 20ft container ready and waiting to be filled with vital things for Hands of Love Orphanage and School, the Kampala office and their surrounding communities.
(For list; see below in red)

This is all thanks to the generosity of Falk Nutec. (There will be a piece about this appeal in the gazette some time this week.)

If you live locally (Teesside, Northeast England) and have any suitable items you wish to donate (or any bright ideas for other items?) please contact us for more details.

If you require items picking up we MAY be able to assist on
occasions. The phone number is 01642 876707.

If you have any other enquires regarding Hands of Love feel free to phone John or I on 01642 880017.

If anyone has any packing boxes, crates, pallets, etc that they would like to donate that would also be exceptionally helpful.

If you are donating items and find you are able to box them up yourself and stick a contents list to the outside of the box, it would save the HoL team a lot of hard work. If you really cant, don’t worry. We are just very grateful for your donation and effort. Thanks.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help with the loading and organising of the container that would be great. Please let us know your contact details.

Kind Regards,

Linda Gray.

Parent Help Needed

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

On the day of the Locomotion Guinness World Record attempt I need about 30 parents to volunteer to help with the registration this will involve manning a table in pairs along one edge of Darlington market square from 10am until the event finishes at 1pm latest. It is a requirement by the Guinness Record people that everyone who is to be counted in the attempt has to sign and have their signature witnessed by two independent adults. The people manning the desks will be doing this and issuing badges to those who have registered. We would then ask you to help collate the collection of badges at the end of the event with the signatures gathered. If anyone is willing to give of their time in this way would you please ring me on 01325 337667.
